Make Your Own Bilby Mask

Easter school holidays are here, and we’ve got a wild little activity to celebrate—our DIY Easter Bilby Mask! It’s part craft, part bush treasure hunt, and a gentle way to spark eco-stewardship in your wildlings.

What You’ll Need:

  • Printable Bilby Mask Template (Download here) or just make your own out of cardboard or paper

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • String or ribbon

  • Natural decorations (leaves, flowers, bark, sand, seeds—whatever you find on your adventure!)

How to Make Your Bilby Mask:

  • Print & Cut – Print the Bilby mask template and carefully cut out the mask and eye holes.

  • Colour & Decorate – Use crayons, pencils, or markers to colour your bilby. Want to go wild? Stick on natural materials like leaves, petals, bark, or sand for added texture and creativity!

  • Attach the String – Punch holes on either side of the mask and tie on some elastic, string, or ribbon so it fits snugly on your wildling’s face.

  • Wear & Play! – Pop the mask on and let the bilby adventures begin! Whether it’s hopping around the backyard, playing hide-and-seek, or joining an Easter egg hunt, your little eco-warrior is now an honorary Easter Bilby!

Make It Even More Fun!

  • Go see a real bilby at Queens Park Environmental Education Centre, Ipswich

  • Strike a Pose! Take a photo and tag @wildlings_forestschool using #EasterBilbyWildlings so we can see your wildlings’ creations!

  • Learn More About Bilbies – Talk about why the bilby is special, where it lives, and how we can help protect it (like choosing bilby chocolate instead of bunny chocolate!).

Easter Holidays = Nature Play

The first step in raising eco-conscious kids? Helping them connect with nature. Whether it’s spotting a bilby, decorating their mask with leaves and flowers, or choosing chocolate that supports wildlife conservation, every small act builds a deeper love for the natural world.

At Wildlings Forest School, we encourage children and families across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast to see the wonder in nature through imaginative play. This bilby mask activity also teaches kids to forage sustainably, fostering eco-literacy and a deep love for the natural world.

If you're looking for more ways to embrace outdoor fun, our school holiday programs provide children with opportunities to encourage eco-stewardship and create lifelong memories, surrounded by other curious-minded kids.

Book your spot in our term programs today, and let the adventure begin!
